26 injured in KZN pile-up

Johannesburg - At least 26 people were injured when a bus overturned and collided with multiple vehicles on the N3 near Escourt in KwaZulu-Natal on Monday evening, paramedics said.

"ER24 paramedics as well as emergency services arrived [on] scene and found several vehicles spread across both lanes of the highway," said ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring.

"A large bus lay on its side in the centre medium."

The injuries ranged from minor to moderate.

"All of the patients were found walking around on scene or sitting in their vehicles," he said.

"Paramedics faced many challenges during their treatment of the patients such as keeping patients dry and warm due to the wet weather."

The injured were treated on scene and were taken to the Escourt hospital.

It was believed the heavy downpour of rain and hail might have been a contributing factor in the collision.
