3 killed in KwaZulu-Natal crashes

Johannesburg - Two people were killed and several others, including two children, were injured in a crash on the N3 near Liberty mall on Sunday, ER24 said.

Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said paramedics found that two children, aged four and five, were ejected from the vehicle when it overturned several times during the collision near Pietermaritzburg.

Both sustained multiple fractures and other serious injuries.

Three adults were also found close to the vehicle with multiple fractures and other injuries. It is believed that they were also ejected from the vehicle.

"Sadly two adults have sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead on the scene," he said.

Initial indications were that the vehicle hit a barrier.

Meanwhile, a man died and two others were injured when their car rolled on the N2 near Sibaya on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

"Reports indicate that the vehicle veered off the roadway and overturned, the occupants were ejected from the vehicle as it rolled onto the grass verge," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha.

"Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that a man had tragically died before their arrival, a female sustained serious injury while a third male escaped with minor injuries."

The injured were stabilised on the scene by paramedics before being taken to hospital for treatment.
