Cape Town - Thirty-one children were injured when the bus they were travelling in overturned on the R44 outside Stellenbosch, close to Welgevonden Estate, on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.

"When ER24 paramedics, Life Healthcare paramedics as well as other services arrived on scene they found two children in a critical condition and one in a serious condition," ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing said.
"One of the critically injured patients, a boy, was found with his hand pinned beneath the bus."
Fire and rescue services were able to get the boy out from under the bus. He was treated and then airlifted to hospital.
"The other critically injured patient, the child who was seriously injured and all other children who sustained minor to moderate injuries were treated and transported to local hospitals," Bodasing said.
"They were transported to various hospitals."
The cause of the accident was unknown.
