31 injured as taxi collides with 2 bakkies

Cape Town - A total of 31 people have sustained minor to serious injuries after  a taxi and two bakkies collided in Khayelitsha,  Cape Town, paramedics said on Sunday.

According to ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw, the taxi driver lost control of his vehicle causing it to roll. While it was rolling, the taxi collided with the two bakkies, causing one of them to roll as well.

Paramedics arrived on the scene, at the corners of Baden Powell Drive and Swartklip Road, to find three people trapped inside one of the bakkies, he said.

Jaws of life were used to cut the vehicle open and to remove then occupants.

All 31 injured occupants were treated on the scene before being transported to nearby hospitals, Rossouw said.

The cause of the accident was unclear.
