4 gunned down in Joburg taxi violence

Johannesburg - Four people were killed in a shooting in Orange Farm on Monday, the Johannesburg metro police department said.

It was a suspected taxi violence incident, said JMPD spokesperson Edna Mamonyane.

"JMPD officers have since arrested four suspects and recovered two firearms," said Mamonyane.

Two taxis which were involved in the incident were also impounded.

"The suspects were taken to the Orange Farm police station where a case of murder and possession of firearms has been opened," said Mamonyane.

"Police will establish whether those firearms are legal."

It was unclear whether those killed were taxi drivers or passengers.
