4 killed in Bloemfontein crash

Johannesburg - Four people were killed and one was seriously injured when the cars they were travelling in collided head-on along the N8 near the Bloemfontein Airport in the Free State, on Saturday, paramedics said.

Five people were found trapped inside one vehicle, the driver of the other vehicle was found lying on the road, Netcare911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Four people died on the scene as paramedics attempted to extract them from the twisted metal of their car.

"Advanced life support paramedics and their teams worked fervently to resuscitate the critically wounded but tragically they died at the scene due to the extensive injuries that they sustained," he said.

The wounded patient was taken to a nearby hospital for further treatment.

The driver of the other vehicle sustained minor injuries, Botha said.
