5 held as they try to rob supermarket in East London

East London - Five people were arrested on Sunday morning after they attempted to rob a supermarket in Vincent Park Mall in East London, police said.

"Police were on patrol around Vincent, when they were alerted about the incident.  They swiftly responded and tactically disarmed the criminals," Lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku said.

Police confiscated two pistols, crow bar, electrical grinder, hammer, cable ties and other tools.

Mzuku said no one was injured and no money was taken.

The suspects, aged between 29 and 35 are expected to appear in East London Magistrate's Court on Monday on charges of attempted business robbery.
