Johannesburg - Five men have been arrested for allegedly impersonating police officers in Edenvale on the East Rand, police said on Friday.
Captain Kabelo Marumo said the men, aged between 27 and 38, were arrested on Thursday.
Three men were arrested when police stopped a suspicious vehicle without number plates on the corner of Terrace and Van Riebeek streets.
The three occupants were dressed in police uniforms without rank flashes and name tags. They were wearing security boots.
The fourth man was arrested in a restaurant in Edenvale. Police tracked him down after they answered the cellphone of one of the men in the vehicle.
He led police to Tembisa, where the fifth man was arrested.
Police recovered an unlicensed firearm and eight rounds of ammunition, police reflectors, wallets, a motor vehicle and house-breaking tools.
