5 wounded in Westbury drive-by shooting

Johannesburg - Five people were wounded during a gang-related drive-by shooting in Westbury, Johannesburg, police said on Monday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini said an unknown number of suspects travelling in a red Volkswagen Golf opened fire on five men on Sunday afternoon.

Three of the men were wounded in the lower body and the other two in the upper body, leaving them in a serious condition.

Dlamini said police followed up on information and arrested two of the suspects.

Police are continuing to investigate the shootings.

In a separate incident a man was shot dead next to his vehicle in the same area on Friday evening.

Dlamini said the alleged killer fled the scene in a silver Volkswagen vehicle.

A murder case was opened.

The motive for the shooting was not yet known.
