Johannesburg - At least six children were killed when a bakkie overturned on Edendale Road, Pietermaritzburg, on Wednesday, paramedics said.
ER24 spokesperson Pieter Rossouw said it appeared the bakkie veered off the road and crashed into a fence and a house.
"The collision killed six children under the age of 13 and left 18 others injured," he said.
Of the injured, seven were critical, nine sustained moderate injuries and two had minor injuries.
Robert Mckenzie, spokesperson for Emergency Medical Services, said the six children, four girls and two boys died on the scene.
The cause of the accident is being investigated by the police.
