7 burnt beyond recognition in North West crash

Johannesburg - Seven people died when their vehicles collided on the N12 between Christiana and Warrenton, North West police said on Sunday.

Five people travelling in a VW Jetta and two people travelling in a Toyota bakkie died in the accident on Saturday afternoon, Brigadier Thulani Ngubane said.

The VW, travelling from Warrenton to Christiana allegedly had a burst tyre and swerved onto the oncoming lane and collided with the bakkie, which was travelling towards Warrenton.

"At impact both vehicles burst into flames, and all seven occupants were burnt beyond recognition," said Ngubane.

A new or amended legislation should compel ALL drivers to carry fire extinguishers. I guess other drivers were just standing on the scene helplessly.

Nonsense. Tyres never burst. All the News24 readers who keep on saying doing 140km/h is perfectly safe will confirm that.
