75 immigrants held in Ekurhuleni

Johannesburg - Seventy-five immigrants were arrested in Springs, east of Johannesburg for being in possession of fake identity permits and passports, Ekurhuleni metro police said on Saturday.

The groups were arrested on Thursday in the Springs central business district, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago said.

"They were arrested for fraudulent passports and permits, having no documentation at all, the use of permits for wrong reasons and expired permits", Kgasago said.

They were expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate's Court soon on charges of possession of fraudulent passports, expired permits and misuse of permits.

Kganyago said some individuals used study permits to enter the country with the intention to do business and not to study.
