80 taverns closed down in Soweto

Johannesburg - Police closed down eighty taverns and shebeens across Soweto over the weekend for operating without permits, Gauteng police said on Sunday.

"The eighty owners were arrested and charged. Police also confiscated all the alcohol at these establishments," said Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela.

The crime swoop was conducted by female police officers as part of the August Women's Month operations, said Makhubela.

The tavern owners would appear at various courts in Soweto soon on charges of operating illegal liquor outlets.

Yawning, every weekend police says that dy have closed 80 or 90 tarvens n arrested 300, now when counting, supposed in a month they close almost 400 tarvens, then yearly it wl be like 4000 when estimating, now i'm wondering if indeed they are closing this tarvens or they only close them for that day, cause really their statistics doesn't make sense to me, cause if they say indeed they closed them, then supposed there are no supposed to be tarvens in soweto during this tym of the year, cause this are weekly statistic especially frm friday to sunday, meaning that this kind of Ops happens four times a month, now counting frm January the whole soweto supposed to be shut down, now who can give me valid reasons as to who is fooling who here, m asking this cause m residing in soweto.

80 tarvens*5 family members =400 people left with no food on the table which leads to crime.

In Apartheid regime there were no street-to-street taverns; tavern were forbidden, but because you (ANC) want vote; you doesn't care about youth who died everyday, women, children who being raped because of these taverns. Now this operation is there cause yesterday the gangsters shoot and robbed Traffic Cop.
