Durban - The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal says it will do anything and everything to resist whatever that will seek to divide it as it prepares for next week’s National General Council.
Speaking at the end of the two day PGC at the Coastlands Hotel in South Beach, Durban on Sunday, provincial secretary Sihle Zikalala again reaffirmed KZN’s support for President Jacob Zuma.
Speaking about some of the resolutions taken during the PGC, Zikalala said the province held a successful meeting.
"We dealt with a number of issues… one of the issues we have reaffirmed is our support for the president, comrade Jacob Zuma. Over the period of time we have seen serious attacks on him as the leader of the organisation.
"We want to reaffirm our support, the good work since he took over as the president of the ANC and in government, he has done well," said Zikalala.
He said KZN will present a united front at the NGC.
"Anything that attacks the unity of the ANC undermines the unity of our people and therefore we will do anything and everything to resist whatever will seek to divide the ANC.
"We know that there are people, as reported in the media, who thought that the NGC was going to be a platform to launch the debate for 2017, we are not of that view.
"The 2017 debate will come at the right time, for now we are going to the NGC to assess the progress on policies we are implementing," he said.
One of the issues that the party will be dealing with, said Zikalala, is economic transformation, including industrialisation.
"We must ensure that raw materials in South Africa are not exported without being processed in the country first, this is one of the issues we will be pursuing at the NGC.
"Another issue is synergising spheres of government. We want to enter a ten year program ensuring that we build the capacity of local government.
"That program will seek to do away will the sphere of provincial government and end up with a central government, local municipalities and regional cities with the capacity to deliver," he said.
