Johannesburg - Facebook and other social media must be used to defend the African National Congress, not to undermine it, ANC Youth League national convenor Fikile Mbalula said on Friday.
"The ANC youth league must flood the social media space, because that is where the youth of today is found," he said at the league’s 25th national congress in Midrand.
"That is where we will find those that speak ill of us. That is where we should engage with them and be unapologetic."
Mbalula warned against using Facebook to tarnish the party's image.
"It must be used to defend the organisation and it must be where we gather to share ideas."
Mbalula said the "young lions" should protect the party from negative media reports.
"We need to change the tide of the negative stories being told. There is nothing we can change because counter-revolutions have merged and combined efforts against our glorious movement."
He said the congress needed to discuss how to "seize" media institutions and their journalists.
