ANCYL set to hold provincial general councils

Johannesburg - The ANC Youth League will hold provincial general councils - starting this weekend - when, among other things, each province will decide who to nominate for leadership positions.

The league is holding its long-awaited elective congress next week from September 4 to 6 in Midrand, Johannesburg.

The ANCYL's leadership structures were disbanded in 2013 and replaced with a national task team (NTT) and provincial task teams.

The congress was meant to be held last year December, but at the last minute it was converted into a consultative congress, which upset some ANCYL members who were ready to elect new leaders.

It was then set to be held in July, but had to be postponed. There were allegations that this was because of interference, but ANCYL NTT co-ordinator and Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa said it was because not all branches had managed to hold branch general meetings.

Limpopo will hold its provincial general council (PGC) at the Lebowakgomo Civic Centre on Saturday. The NTT deployee to the province is Public Enterprise Minister Malusi Gigaba.

The Eastern Cape will hold a two-day PGC on Saturday and Sunday. The NTT deployee is Co-operative Governance Deputy Minister Andries Nel.

The Free State will hold its two-day PGC at the ANC provincial office on Sunday and Monday. The NTT deployee is Rural Development and Land Reform Deputy Minister Mcebisi Skwatsha.

The North West's PGC will be held on Saturday and Sunday at the Mmabatho Civic Centre. Communications Minister Faith Muthambi is the NTT deployee.

Gauteng will hold its PGC at the Kibler Park Centre on Saturday. NTT deployee, convener and Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula will attend the meeting.

Mpumalanaga's two-day PGC will be held at the Ehlanzeni district municipality offices in Nelspruit on Saturday and Sunday. The NTT deployee is Seiso Mohai.

The Northern Cape is holding its PGC on Tuesday and Wednesday at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley. Pinky Moloi is the NTT deployee.

The Western Cape is holding its PGC on Saturday and Sunday at the Zwelethemba Multipurpose Centre in Cape Town. Nocawe Mafu is the NTT deployee.

KwaZulu-Natal will hold its PGC on Saturday and Sunday at the University of Zululand, City Campus, in Richards Bay. Mthethwa is the NTT deployee.
