Polokwane – The bail application of a Limpopo businessman accused of killing his wife was postponed by the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Magistrate Mohamed Shaik postponed 28-year-old Rameez Patel’s case to May 7 to allow the State to call more witnesses.
The State was opposing his application, saying that investigations were not complete.
Investigating officer David Nkuna said police were still looking for 29-year-old Fatima Patels’s cellphone and handbag.
She was strangled, assaulted, and shot in the head, apparently with a 9mm pistol, in the couple’s Nirvana, Polokwane, flat on Friday April 10.
Nkuna said he did not love his wife and had planned to kill her.
He earlier told that court that Patel left his wife’s corpse in their flat to take a bath at his uncle's house.
"I realised that my hands was full of blood and went to bath at my uncle’s home,” Nkuna said Patel told him.
Nkuna was called to the scene following reports that armed robbers had killed a woman. Evidence however indicated there was no forced entry. Patel was arrested four days later.
“I found her lying dead in the dining room and the head was close to the bathroom, her face facing up. There was no forced entry into the house.”
He said Patel changed clothes three times that day. When Nkuna arrived at the scene Patel was not there, but arrived about 20 minutes later when someone called him. That was when Patel told him about having gone to take a bath.
