Amanzimtoti lifeguards return to work

Durban - After a go-slow for most of last month, Amanzimtoti based lifeguards returned to work on Wednesday.

Toti Main Beach in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban, has now reopened after disgruntled lifeguards and various municipal staff had protested over alleged mistreatment by their manager.

On Wednesday, protesters chanted outside of the beach office and allegedly threw rubbish in the main beach parking area.

However, by the afternoon eThekwini head of communications Tozi Mthethwa said: "All district five lifeguards returned to work at 13:00 today [Wednesday]."

"Their grievances will be thoroughly investigated by an internal independent fact finding team with the purpose of determining a way forward. The staff is returning back to their original shift pattern and overtime rosters."
