Baby burnt to death in Meadowlands

Johannesburg - A 4-year-old baby girl burnt to death inside a house in Meadowlands, Soweto, on Tuesday, Gauteng police said.

"The mother alleges she went to the loo leaving the baby in the bedroom. When she returned the house was on fire," police spokesperson Kay Makhubela said.

"The baby was burnt beyond recognition."

He said the mother explained that the flames were huge and she could not save the baby.

An inquest and arson docket were opened.

The child was left unattended, the time one spend in the toilet cannot afford to burn down the house completely

This doesn't sound right... if someone started the fire surely she would have heard something being thrown into the house (especially if it was a petrol bomb, the glass would have exploded)? And if the flames were so big, the house would have been filled with smoke and she would have smelt it? Also, a four year old can vocalize pretty well by then, surely she must have cried out for her mom (unless she was sleeping)? RIP to the poor girl, but this really doesn't sound right.

All depends on how far the toilet was from the house or what ever she lived in...? But still very sad story to hear that a little baby, innocent girl was lost today and through terrible suffering of being burnt alive - I can only imagine ( if that is fact the truth ) We'll little one if this means anything - your soul has been set free and you are in a much kinder and loving safe place. Bless you
