Johannesburg – A 10-month-old baby and three adults were airlifted to various hospitals on Monday following three separate accidents in Gauteng, paramedics said.
The baby was among a group of people injured when their minibus taxi overturned on the N1 south in Midrand in the evening, Netcare 911 spokesperson Santi Steinmann said.
It was not clear how many people were injured, as there were several ambulance services on the scene.
The baby was in a critical condition and was airlifted to hospital with its mother, who sustained serious injuries.
In Dorfling Street in Akasia, Pretoria, a goods vehicle reversed into a woman, pinning her against a wall. The 57-year-old was seriously injured. The driver apparently did not see her.
On Cason Road, Boksburg, on the East Rand, the driver of a utility vehicle rear-ended a car. The Boksburg fire department had to cut the critically injured man out of the wreckage.
"We had quite a busy day. It’s not unusual for us," Steinmann said of the fact that four people were airlifted to hospitals.
