Polokwane - The bail hearing of a Limpopo father accused of slitting the throats of his four sons has been postponed.
Appearing before the Periodical Court Magatle, Lesiba Kekana's lawyer Silas Senwamadi asked to see a confession statement made by Kekana after he allegedly murdered his sons.
The move was not opposed by the State and it was agreed that the hearing should be rescheduled.
Magistrate MG Mokou postponed the matter to October 15.
Kekana was arrested last month. He allegedly tried to cut his own throat after allegedly killing the boys.
His wife Loraine Nkoana, 37, said on September 7 she and her husband had a fight but she was under the impression it had been resolved after an uncle stepped in and mediated.
The wife, speaking in Sepedi, said she started getting abusive phone calls from Kekana while he was driving from Gauteng to Limpopo with their four sons, aged 13, 10, 6, and 4.
‘Say goodbye’
He called her and told her to say goodbye to them.
"He said to me, 'don’t you have last words to tell your children?', and I said, 'I don’t - because there is nothing that will end their lives' and he hung up the phone,” she told Transport and Security MEC Mapula Mokaba-Phukwana who visited her at her home.
She said a while later she received a call from her youngest son Leholedi who told her that his older brothers were bleeding.
“He gave the last-born the phone and my child told me his elder brothers are bleeding. And I could hear children screaming and groaning in the background,” said Loraine, weeping.
She called her parents and asked them to inform the police.
“I could not believe my children were dead.”
Speaking outside court after the postponement on Tuesday, Kekana's father Phineas Kekana said his family is still struggling to come to terms with deaths of the children.
