Cape Town - Former Bafana Bafana player Benni McCarthy was robbed at gunpoint while having his hair cut in Johannesburg on Tuesday, according to reports.
Eyewitness News reported that the former soccer player, who had just landed following a flight from Paris, was in Melrose having his hair cut when three armed men walked in and robbed him.
Soccer Laduma reported that a witness inside the barbershop said the incident happened just after lunchtime on Tuesday.
McCarthy’s manager, Percy Adams, told EWN that the robbers stole his watch, earrings and his wedding ring.
It’s alleged that he was the only one targeted in the shop, while the other patrons were ignored.
Adams said the suspects had pointed a gun in McCarthy’s face and kept telling him to hurry up.
According to KickOff the three left the scene in a black BMW.
No shots were fired and no one was injured.
Gauteng police spokesperson Katlego Mogale told News24 she was still trying to confirm the details of the incident, and would comment later.
