Body found on Table Mountain

Cape Town - A body found on Table Mountain on Wednesday will be removed on Thursday, police have confirmed.

It is understood that a hiker stumbled upon the corpse near the Arrow Final area below the cable car on Wednesday afternoon and reported it to the authorities.

Provincial police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk confirmed a Metro Search and Rescue Team as well as SANParks employees confirmed the body was that of a man.

“The rescue manager decided that the body of the deceased will be recovered and removed today [Thursday] due to the [bad] weather conditions last night,” he said.

According to a police source, it appears the man may have fallen to his death.

His identity has not been made public yet.

In May, Muizenberg resident Taro Spies, 25, disappeared while out on a hike on Table Mountain. Reports on Thursday indicated that the body is not that of Spies.
