Boy, 14, accidentally shoots himself in leg

Durban - A 14-year old boy was in a serious condition on Monday morning after accidentally shooting himself in the leg, paramedics said.

The boy was at home in the Douglas area, near Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal, when the gun accidentally went off while playing with it, spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

"ER24 paramedics arrived at the residence and were ushered into one of the bedrooms were they found the young patient. On assessment, paramedics found that the patient had sustained a gunshot to his thigh."

Paramedics treated the boy for his injuries, as well as providing him with advanced life support. Once treated, the boy was taken to a hospital in Ladysmith for further treatment.

"Local authorities were contacted for further investigations," he added.
