Boy wounded in Westbury shooting still critical

Johannesburg - The 3-year-old boy who was caught in the crossfire of a shooting in Wesbury is still in a critical condition, police said on Friday morning, after earlier reports indicated that the boy had died.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Gordon Billing confirmed to News24 that the boy's condition was unchanged.

The New Age and ANN7 reported on Friday that Luke Tibbetts died on Thursday evening when his life support was switched off.

The boy was travelling with his mother, two other adults, and three other children in Westbury last Saturday night when shots were fired, according to Sapa.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition and later declared brain dead. A man in a separate vehicle was also shot and injured.

A suspect was arrested for the shooting and appeared in court this week, where his case was postponed.
