Durban - A 10-year-old boy was seriously injured after he jumped off a 2m-high wall and landed on a metal rod that impaled his foot.
Netcare 911 in a statement said the boy had been fleeing from a dog in the Bonela area of Durban on Thursday afternoon.
"Netcare 911 paramedics and their rescue unit arrived at the scene and found that the child had landed on a metal rod that impaled his foot," said spokesperson Chris Botha.
"The child was treated and an advanced life support paramedic had to sedate the child before rescue officers used the Jaws of Life to cut the rod.
"After the steel rod was cut, paramedics transported the child to hospital so that surgeons could remove it."
