Cape Town - Stellenbosch University is reviewing security at the institution after a 22-year-old Matie was raped during a break-in at a student house.
The incident happened in Joubert Street, which is near the campus. It caters specifically for senior students, reported Eyewitness News.
A safety audit will now be conducted, a university spokesperson says.
But security measures have already been increased as there has been a “significant increase" in muggings on campus and in town, reported the Cape Argus.
The university has already spent millions of rands installing hundreds of security cameras and card readers at residences.
Officials believe that two men were involved in the weekend attack on the student. It is believed that a part of a window that couldn’t be opened before was broken.
No arrests have been made.
The student and her family are receiving counselling from the university.
