Businessman robbed on Joburg M1 off-ramp

Johannesburg - A businessman was robbed of R40 000 at an off-ramp on the M1 north in Houghton, Johannesburg metro police said on Tuesday.

Metro police officers spotted three armed men robbing the man on the 11th Avenue off-ramp and proceeded to assist him, said spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

"The suspects spotted the officers as they approached the scene and started firing at the officers. The officers returned fire and the suspects managed to get away in a silver grey Nissan Navara," Minnaar said.

The businessman told the officers the men robbed him of R40 000 in cash, Minnaar said.

No one was injured.

A case of armed robbery is being investigated.
