Cable fault leaves Pretoria in the dark

Johannesburg - Residents of Equestria in Pretoria are without power on Tuesday because of cable faults, the City of Tshwane said.

Some of the residents of Equestria were without power due to cable faults affecting seven mini-substations, spokesperson Lindela Mashigo said in a statement.

"The city is fully aware of the situation and a dedicated team of technicians is attending to these faults."

Mashigo said power was expected to be restored on Wednesday morning.

Earlier, power was restored to areas in and around the Highveld area in Tshwane following power outages due to attempted cable theft.

"The City of Tshwane's technicians managed to switch electricity back on to most areas in and around Highveld except for consumers in Heritage Hill," Mashigo said in a statement.

"This follows an outage that was experienced as a result of attempted theft and vandalism of electricity cables at the Nivs substation in the early hours of yesterday [Monday] morning."

Mashigo said due to the extent of damage caused the repairs took longer than expected.

Power was also restored in Soshanguve but Mashigo appealed to residents of blocks AA, CC, G, F and E to reduce electricity usage for the next 24 hours in the evenings to assist with the load on the electrical network.

"The city's technicians moved swiftly to switch power back on following power failure that was experienced in Soshanguve in the early hours of this morning [Tuesday] due to two main feeder cable faults that supply the CC substation," he said.
