Netwerk24 reported that morning rush hour could be a nightmare, due to flooding and dangerous road conditions.

The SA Weather Service warned earlier in the week that the first of two cold fronts would hit the Western Cape on Wednesday morning, with another one set to make landfall later in the day. Widespread showers, localised flooding, rough seas, snow and cold conditions were forecast.

The City of Cape Town's disaster risk management centre said late on Tuesday that it was putting contingency measures in place ahead of the bad weather.

"As with previous episodes of severe weather conditions, the City of Cape Town has put in place measures to try and mitigate the impact, and our operational staff will be on standby to assist residents in need over the next few days. We urge the public to exercise caution, especially on the roads, as we tend to see an increase in motor vehicle accidents during bad weather periods. Allow extra time for travelling and maintain a safe following distance in wet weather where visibility is compromised," said Richard Bosman, executive director for safety and security.

Cape Town residents were warned to stay away from the beach as waves were expected to reach 6m high as two cold fronts hit the peninsula.

Mandy I miss you always but even more on these cold Cape winter nights. I remember cinnamon pancakes and long walks on stormy beaches, lighting the fire and snuggling up against the cold. You were the best dog a man could ever wish for.
