Close family barred from seeing Marli van Breda

Cape Town - Even close relatives have been barred from seeing 16-year-old Marli van Breda, one of the victims of a brutal axe attack that left three of her family members dead.

Van Breda suffered a severe head trauma and severed jugular.

The bodies of her father Martin van Breda, 54, mother Teresa, 55, and brother Rudi, 22, were found in their luxury De Zalze Golf Estate home on Tuesday morning.

The spokesperson for Vergelegen Mediclinic, Carla Hanekom, told News24 Marli’s condition remained critical but stable on Thursday morning.

Hanekom told the Times no one is allowed to see Marli, “not even close family members”.

The headmistress of Somerset College, Meg Fargher, said on Wednesday Marli is “a lovely, popular, clever girl”.

The Van Breda parents were very involved at the school and are very supportive of the other pupils, said Fargher.
