Cape Town - The Constitutional Court has appointed acting justices for the first and second term of this year, it said on Thursday.
Justices Chris Jafta, Ray Zondo and Johann van der Westhuizen were on long leave only due to end between March and May.
The vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Thembile Skweyiya had also not yet been filled.
As a result, Justice Zukisa Tshiqi and Justice Leona Theron, both of the Supreme Court of Appeal, had been appointed as acting justices until May 31.
Free State High Court Judge President Mahube Betty Molemela had been appointed as an acting justice until 31 May.
Kwazulu-Natal High Court Deputy Judge President Achmat Jappie would serve in an acting position until 31 March.
