Durban - An off-duty police officer was arrested in Umhlanga for alleged drunken driving after he knocked down a pedestrian on Friday.
Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said a case of driving under the influence and reckless and negligent driving had been opened at the Durban North police station.
The 31-year-old officer is believed to be from the Verulam Police Station, north of Durban.
Zwane added the pedestrian was in critical condition.
"The suspect will appear in court soon," Zwane said.
