Johannesburg - Three men were each sentenced to 25 years' imprisonment by the Palm Ridge Magistrate's Court on Friday for shooting dead a police officer, Johannesburg Metro Police said.
The men, aged in their late 20s and early 30s, were arrested after they shot and killed metro police officer Gabri Fouche, 25, on 3 October 2012, said chief superintendent Wayne Minnaar.
The group robbed a post office in Florida, west of Johannesburg, and while fleeing the scene, their vehicle collided with Fouche's motorcycle.
A shoot-out then occurred between Fouche and the men.
He was shot in the chest and died, while one of the men was shot and wounded and was arrested.
The other two men fled, but were later arrested.
