Cop pleads guilty to sex with minor

Tonga - A 50-year-old Mpumalanga police officer has pleaded guilty to having sex with a 13-year-old girl.

The accused, Inspector Dalton Zulu Nyambi, 50, of Sibayeni village near the Swazi and Mozambican border, pleaded guilty to rape when appearing in the Tonga Regional Court on Tuesday.

Nyambi, a police officer attached to the Lebombo border port of entry, told the court that he had sex with the minor during a drinking spree on 10 September 2013, a Sapa correspondent reported.

He was arrested on 3 December that year.

He told the court he was a widower raising three boys and two girls.

He apologised and promised to visit the minor's family to express his remorse.

Magistrate Edgar Moletsane postponed the case to Thursday.
