Johannesburg - A man was arrested after firing shots at police in Johannesburg on Sunday, metro police said.
Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said a shooting incident occurred after metro police followed a car from the M2 at Benrose shortly after 14:00.
Officers spotted a black Mercedes Benz driving on the M2 west driving at high speed and recklessly.
"The car was in the fast lane and crossed all lanes to Benrose off-ramp and the officers followed the car that was headed to George Goch Hostel.
"Four occupants disembarked from the Merc and started shooting," said Minnaar.
"Our guys couldn't shoot due to people who were coming out from church", he said.
One suspect was arrested and the other three ran away.
The car was found to have been stolen earlier this year and was allegedly involved in a shooting in central Johannesburg.
The car would be taken to the pound and returned to its owner after investigations were completed, Minnaar said.
