Court to consider Mangaung plot plea bargain

Johannesburg - A decision on whether two men charged with high treason would enter a plea bargain could possibly be heard in the Free State High Court on Wednesday.

During the last appearance of Mark Trollip, 48, and Johan Hendrik Prinsloo, 49, prosecutor Tory Pretorius said the State was busy with negotiations that could shorten the trial significantly.

The trial was scheduled to start on 18 November.

Trollip and Prinsloo were charged with high treason for their alleged involvement in plans to bomb the African National Congress's national conference in Mangaung last December.

According to the charge sheet, the two men planned to acquire weaponry such as AK-47, R1 and R4 rifles to execute the coup.

They remain in custody.
