Court to hear DA's bid to remove Motsoeneng

Cape Town - The DA's application to have the appointment of SABC chief operating officer Hlaudi Motsoeneng set aside is expected to be heard in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

In February, Public Protector Thuli Madonsela released a report on Motsoeneng, while he was acting COO.

She found his salary increased from R1.5m to R2.4m in one year, that he had purged senior staff, and misrepresented his matric qualifications to the SABC. Madonsela recommended that a new COO be appointed at the SABC within 90 days.

In July, Communications Minister Faith Muthambi announced Motsoeneng's permanent appointment. She said he was cleared of all wrongdoing by a legal firm before the decision was made.

The Democratic Alliance then launched a high court bid to have his appointment set aside. Muthambi and the SABC filed opposing court papers.

SABC board chairperson Ellen Tshabalala, in her court papers, reportedly rubbished Madonsela's report.

Tshabalala said the broadcaster knew from day one that Motsoeneng did not have matric.

She said he was not dishonest, had never misled the SABC, and was not responsible for any irregular spending.

If he lied about his qualification then it is fraud. A criminal offence. He does not deserve that position. I also want to know how they justified giving him such an enormous increase. The truth will come out in court, so therefore it is good that it goes to court.

Disgusting that the ANC have to be forced to behave. They continuously abuse the law showing a deep lack of integrity and suitability to guide South Africa to prosperity and unity. So frustrating theft, incompetence and dishonesty are voted into power again and again.

With spy tapes due to come out if they did exist anyway, I am hopeful that with this one of Matricless COO DA will come out a winner. You have my full support guys. We not not rush them as long at the end of the road you are declared a winner and paid your legal costs. DA is just doing exactly what I expect from an Opposition. Keep up the good work of nailing them. If you managed to destroy the stem(Zuma), the leaves(little corrupts) are nothing.

This is the step in the right direction by the DA court action. If the SABC knew that Hlaudi possessed no Matric cerificate, why then did his cv go missing during the investigation by the pp. If indeed the SABC knew about him not having Matric certificate or post Matric qualification, then let those who hire him despite limited academic qualifications face the music. If he played no role in his unusual ridiculously high salary hikes, let those who perpetuated it come forth and answer. Otherwise this is a farce unheard of.

The more corrupt cANCer can be the better. And they will always watch each others back. Is it a failure to turn on each other. It must be because they cannot see right from wrong.
