Cross-examination of Anni cousin continues

Cape Town - British businessman Shrien Dewani's trial, for the murder of his wife Anni, continues in the Western Cape High Court on Tuesday.

Francois van Zyl, for Dewani, is to continue his cross-examination of Sneha Mashru, Anni's cousin.

On Monday, Mashru told the court that Anni wanted out of her marriage to Shrien.

Van Zyl asked Mashru whether the marriage was arranged or whether they got engaged because they loved each other.

She responded that Anni had her doubts about the marriage and together they composed an e-mail to Shrien in which she explained her doubts.

Mashru said it was not an arranged marriage and they went ahead with their engagement after that contact because she thought he would change his ways.

Dewani is accused of masterminding the murder of his wife during their honeymoon in Cape Town and offering local men R15 000 to carry out a hit on 13 November 2010.

He has pleaded not guilty to the five counts against him, maintaining that the couple were the victims of a hijacking.
