Van Breda murder arrests soon - report

Cape Town - An arrest in the De Zalze murders could be made within the next two weeks, Eikestad Nuus reported on Friday.

According to a source close to the investigation, enough forensic evidence has been gathered during the secretive Van Breda murder investigation to take somebody into custody, and to court.

Martin,54, en Teresa, 55, Van Breda and their oldest son, Rudi, 22, were killed with an axe between January 26 and 27 this year at their luxury house on the De Zalze golf estate outside Stellenbosch.

Their daughter Marli, 16, survived the attack with wounds to her head and neck. Her brother Henri, 20, sustained light injuries.

Marli cannot remember anything about the attack. She was in hospital and a rehabilitation facility until her discharge into the care of family friends recently.

Eikestad Nuus also reported that over 130 pieces of evidence had already been collected by the investigating team.

Henri, who called the emergency services, is staying with family and has reportedly already had to hand his passport to police.

According to Marli's curator, Louise Buikman SC, she is receiving physiotherapy and speech therapy, as well as psychological support, and enjoys visits by her school friends.

Western Cape police spokesperson Andre Traut said police would alert the media when they were in a position to disclose more information about the murders.
