Pretoria - The trial of 20 men accused of plotting to overthrow Democratic Republic of Congo President Joseph Kabila was delayed in the North Gauteng High Court, The Star reported on Tuesday.
The delays stemmed from two applications launched by 14 of the accused during their appearance on Monday.
One application entailed asking the judge to set aside a decision by the National Director of Public Prosecutions to authorise a trap set for the group.
The second was whether or not the set up was in accordance with the law, and whether evidence by several State witnesses about agents who infiltrated the group was admissible, the paper reported.
If the court ruled in favour of the group, the case could be struck off the roll.
The group, known as the Union of Nationalists for Renewal faced charges of engaging in mercenary activity between September 2012 and last February.
They also faced a second charge of conspiracy to commit murder.
They have not yet pleaded to the charges.
