Johannesburg – Two days after apparently being drugged and kidnapped from an Edenvale bar, a Kempton Park man was found alive in the Tembisa police station cells.
Apart from a split lip, Ryan Watson, 21, was unhurt and can remember nothing of what happened, his half-brother Shane Thompson said.
Police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme said Watson was arrested for drunken driving in Norkem Park at 00:15 on Wednesday. He had no further details.
According to Thomson, security camera footage shows Watson being led out of Rockabilly’s Pool Lounge to his car in the Eden Terrace centre parking garage by a man at 22:36 on Tuesday.
Watson, wearing a black T-shirt, walks unsteadily and with the other man holding him. He was driven away in his white VW Golf.
“It seems they were stopped by the police in Tembisa. He woke up in the police station cells. He remembers nothing. His car has gone. His cellphone has gone, his wallet is gone.”
Thomson found it odd Watson still had his car keys, but the keys to the liquor store where he worked which were on the same ring, were gone.
“It seems like they were coming back together to try and rob us at our house,” Thomson speculated.
He was insistent his half-brother was not drunk.
“I’ve seen him when he’s drunk. What I saw on the CCTV footage, that was not drunk.”
They would return to the police station to try piece together what had happened, as the officers who had been on duty on Tuesday night were not there on Thursday.
“My gut tells me he’s been kidnapped, I don’t know what for. I do think he’s been drugged. He’s not a weak guy and he can fight back,” Thomson said.
His mother Angela had also looked at the footage.
“I’ve never seen him like that. He would have had a drink or two, but he doesn’t take drugs. He wouldn’t do that,” she said.
