Ethekwini municipality workers injured as driver loses control

Durban - Three eThekwini municipality workers were injured when the driver of a car, believed to be a 17-year-old, allegedly lost control of a vehicle, and pinned the men to a brick wall on Friday morning.

Head of communications Tozi Mthethwa said the workers from the eThekwini water unit were carrying out routine maintenance to valves along Tatford Road in Phoenix.

Mthethwa said the driver, believed to be 17, was allegedly speeding.

"The team was inspecting valves along the verge when the car ploughed into them, ramming them against a brick wall. This resulted in sections of the wall collapsing," said Mthethwa.

IPSS Medical Rescue’s Paul Herbst said the driver lost control and hit the wall.

"The workers were in a critical condition. They were transported to various hospitals for further treatment," said Herbst.
