Ex-law and order minister Hernus Kriel dies

Cape Town - The former law and order minister and first premier of the Western Cape, Hernus Kriel, has died.

He was 73.

On Monday afternoon, Barend du Plessis, the former finance minister confirmed that Kriel had died.

Du Plessis told Netwerk24 that he had been bed ridden over the past year at a care facility in Cape Town.

His condition deteriorated suddenly on Saturday.

Du Plessis said he could not reveal the exact cause of Kriel’s death, without the permission of the family.
