Cape Town - A Cape Town family struggling to cope with the death of their promising teenage son is frustrated that, months later, police have seemingly made no progress in the case.
Milnerton High School headboy Jake Wootton was hit by a car while walking down the road with friends in Hermanus over Easter weekend, reported the
Cape Argus.
More than four months have passed since the popular teenager was killed.
“We’re very frustrated because the investigations seem to be going nowhere. The driver who killed my son is still walking free, and we have had no word about an investigation into the police’s response to the accident,” said the boy’s father, Stephen Wootton.
“For us as a family, our lives will never be the same. But we still want to have answers.”
A police spokesperson said the investigation had been finished and that the prosecuting authority would make a decision soon on the case.
Shortly after the accident, it was claimed by witnesses that the driver of the car was not given a breathalyser test and police officers had allegedly said that “things were done differently” in Hermanus.
