Johannesburg - At least seven shacks at the George Koch informal settlement were destroyed by fire leaving several families homeless, Johannesburg emergency services said on Saturday.
"The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, no one was injured," said spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi.
The fire started on Friday night.
Firefighters managed to put out the blaze shortly before it started to rain.
Disaster management was still trying to find accommodation for the families, Mulaudzi said.
