Johannesburg - A man died of an apparent heart attack while fishing near St Francis Bay in the Eastern Cape on Monday, the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) said.
The 36-year-old suffered "breathing difficulties" around 06:00 while onboard a fishing boat, said St Francis Bay NSRI station commander Paul Hurley.
"It is suspected that the man may have suffered a heart attack."
Medics arrived at the scene to find him breathless and pulseless, and they started cardio pulmonary resuscitation, but to no avail. The man was later declared dead.
On Sunday, another fisherman also suffered breathing problems while at sea near Huisklip in the Eastern Cape.
"A 55-year-old fisherman onboard suffered breathing difficulties from suspected asthma compounded by a bout of bronchitis," said Hurley.
"The patient was transferred onto our sea rescue craft and brought into the Port of St Francis."
He was then taken to hospital where he was in a stable condition.
