Durban - A former Emergency Medical Service staff member will appear in the Durban Regional court on Monday in connection with incitement of violence, arson and intimidation of workers, the KZN Health Department said on Sunday.
KZN Health spokesperson Agiza Hlongwane said the former staff member was arrested on Saturday 23 May 2015 at one of the EMS bases.
Hlongwane said the arrest comes after numerous incidents related to EMS, which include the stoning of a Planned Patient Transport with 12 patients on board, including a pregnant woman, on the R102, Ezidedele Area, Empangeni in Uthungulu District last Thursday.
“Other incidences include the burning of two ambulances in Uthungulu District three weeks ago. The partial burning of an ambulance at the FOSA EMS base in Newlands West, also on Thursday and alleged intimidation of Emergency Medical Services [EMS] staff who reported for duty during an illegal “go slow” by some EMS members,” said Hlongwane.
KZN Health MEC Sibongisenin Dhlomo is expected to attend the court case on Monday.
