Former model boss gave rape victim morning-after pill, court hears

Johannesburg - A 20-year-old woman who was allegedly raped by former modelling boss Dawie de Villiers five years ago has testified that he gave her a morning-after pill after the incident and threatened to come after her family if she told anyone.

The soft-spoken petite woman, told the High Court sitting in Palm Ridge on Tuesday, that she had met De Villiers via Facebook in 2010. She was 15 years old at the time.

After accepting De Villiers's friend request, he then invited the aspiring model to his company in Kempton Park, east of Johannesburg.

The woman convinced her mother to take her there and De Villiers, who is the founder and owner of Modelling South Africa (MSA), subsequently became the woman's modelling teacher.

"Everything was fine, we started modelling classes. We started off with a few girls and practised our posing."

The woman then told the court that De Villiers asked her to return on a different day for a bikini photo shoot with other girls.

"When I got there I was early, there was no one there," she told the court.

'Music, disco lights and a smoke machine'

She then changed and waited upstairs, as instructed by De Viliiers.

"As I went to go get changed, he put on some music, disco lights and a smoke machine."

She then went into a room where De Villiers usually took the pictures.

"There were still no models coming for the shoot and Dawie told me to come sit on the couch and sit next to him.

"Then he put his hand on my leg, then he started kissing me and I told him, 'No Dawie stop! Dawie stop!'," the tearful woman said.

A short adjournment was taken for the 20-year-old to compose herself. Upon her return she told the court that on that day De Villiers was only wearing shorts and takkies.

While begging him to stop, De Villiers allegedly told the woman that he was only doing what was right.

"Then he pushed me over the armrest of the couch, and he had my hand above my head, and then he took out a condom and put it on and then he penetrated me."

Visibly shaken and sobbing through her words, she told the court that after De Villiers ejaculated and got off her, she ran to the toilet, locked herself in a cubicle and started getting dressed.

"Then I phoned my dad and asked him where he is. Can he please come and pick me up. Then he said he was on his way."

'He told me I must not say anything'

She stayed in the cubicle until her father arrived. There was no communication between her and De Villiers during that time, she told the court.

When her father arrived, she took her belongings and ran to the car.

When her father asked her what was wrong, she said she had a headache from the smoke machine during the shoot.

When she saw De Villiers at the next class, he allegedly called her aside, told her not to tell anyone about what had happened, then reached into his pocket and handed her a morning-after pill.

"And then I asked him why did he do it and he told me not to ask questions.

"I said to Dawie what you did was wrong. And then he told me I must not say anything to anyone or he'll come after my family."

The trial against De Villiers continues. He faces a total of 38 charges, which include: one count of indecent assault, one count of rape, two counts of exposing pornographic materials to two minors, two counts of sexual grooming, one count of intimidation, seven counts of sexual assault, two counts of possession of pornographic material, eight counts of accessing child pornography, three counts of crimen injuria and 11 counts of fraud.

He has pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
