Hearing on Pistorius’s parole postponed

Pretoria - The Kgosi Mampuru II prison parole board on Friday postponed a hearing into Oscar Pistorius’s parole until October 21.

According to eNCA, the board would consult the family of Reeva Steenkamp, who Pistorius shot dead in his home in 2013.

This comes after the parole review board (PRB) referred the matter back to them on Monday, stating Justice Minister Michael Masutha had acted correctly in putting the brakes on Pistorius being released in August, News24 reported.

The Paralympian has spent almost a year behind bars and was initially expected to be released on August 21 to serve the rest of his five-year sentence under house arrest.

However, two days before Masutha announced Pistorius would not be released, saying the parole board had acted prematurely when deciding in June he could be released. Pistorius was convicted of culpable homicide following Steenkamp's death.

He killed her in his Pretoria home on Valentine's Day 2013, claiming he mistook her for an intruder.

The double-amputee track star was also sentenced to another three years, suspended for five years, for discharging a firearm at Tasha’s restaurant in Sandton, Johannesburg, in January 2013.
